Marine and Freshwater Research Institute (MFRI), Iceland

MFRI is a leading research and advice institute in Icelandic waters and in the Arctic region, which monitors and provides advice on the sustainable use and protection of the environment in this vast region.
Scientists within the institute have been heavily involved in work on sensitive species bycatch in recent years; including chairing the ICES working group on bycatch, estimating bycatch in EU waters, establishing best practices in estimating bycatch, evaluating the effectiveness of logbooks in estimating bycatch, and various trials of mitigation devices to reduce bycatch.
